Today I’m unlocking my secret awesome box and giving you my top 10 tips on how to get more views on YouTube! Let’s not waste any time and get right into it.
1. Keyword Research
That’s right, you have to plan your video. With keyword research you can make sure your video will have a chance to be successful and that it has potential to get a lot of views. What you can do with keyword research is find out the monthly search volume on Google for a particular keyword or keyword phrase. There are a few keyword research tools that you can use.
The 1st tool is free and it’s Google Keyword Planner. You can use it as long as you have set up a free Google Adwords account. With the Google Keyword Planner you can input any keywords (whatever your video is going to be about) and find out how many people are searching for that keyword phrase on Google per month. Another free tool is Google Trends. You can use Google Trends to see what the search trends are like for a certain video topic.
A premium keyword research tool that I use is called Long Tail Pro. This tool uses the Google Keyword Planner as it’s backbone but also delivers many other useful statistics and data about the keywords that can help you find the absolute best keyword phrase to use for your video.
When doing keyword research you’re looking for a certain keyword phrase that gets at least 1,000 monthly searches on Google. The more searches that are happening on Google, the more potential views you can get. But also keep in mind that more searches on Google probably means more competition.
So when you find a keyword phrase that gets many monthly searches, go over to Google and YouTube and search for that keyword phrase and check out the videos that are already out there with that same keyword in the video’s title. If there aren’t many then you can potentially rank high for that video and get a cornucopia of views, my friend.
What is metadata? It’s your video title, tags, description, and captions (or transcripts). Make sure you have all 4 of those factors taken care of for your videos. It will help you show up in search results and related video sections.
Without metadata, Google and YouTube don’t know what your video is about. Your title should be matched up exactly to your keyword phrase that you picked from your keyword research from step 1.
You want to have a detailed description for your video, sort of like a blog post. It should be relevant and easy to read. Have relevant tags that aren’t spammy. You can also include popular related YouTube channel names in your tags as long as that channel is related to your video topic. This will help you show up in related videos when people are on those popular channels.
Upload manual transcripts to your YouTube caption settings. The captions show Google and YouTube what your video is about. With accurate captions you can show up in search results rather quickly and potentially beat out competitors who don’t have captions on their videos.
No, not the things you have to clip every week. Thumbnails are the little pictures of your videos that show up in search results. If you have an eye-catching and relevant thumbnail picture for your video then it’s more likely to stand out to people and be noticeable.
Some tips on creating thumbnails are to have bright contrasting colors and don’t have too much text, just enough for people to see what the video is about when they glance at it.
You can create eye-catching thumbnails with free online photo editors like PicMonkey or you can use a free tool like GIMP or a paid tool like Photoshop if you want to get real serious about thumbnails. Just know that you need to create eye-catching and relevant thumbnails for your videos so they will stand out among all the other videos.
These are becoming a bigger part of getting more views on YouTube. If you use annotations effectively, you will be able to link between your videos and your channel which will help you interact with your viewers and have them watch more of your videos.
Get creative when you’re editing your video. Plan to have “hotspots” on your video for your annotations to go. People will notice them, and they’ll click on those annotations.
5. End card
Many YouTubers use “end cards” to get more views at the end of their videos. Let’s say somebody just sat there and watched your whole entire video. If you have an end card, they’re more likely to click on whatever you put in that end card.
You can put annotated links to your other videos, show blooper reels, a clickable Subscribe button, or any other annotations you want to put on there. You can have all that on your end card. Have it play for about 15 seconds after your whole video is done. That end card will persuade your viewers to click on and watch more of your videos.
If you’re a YouTuber, this is extremely important. You don’t want your viewers to watch your video then not do anything and leave. You always want your viewer to take some kind of action.
At the end of your video (or anywhere during your video really) tell your viewer to do something. Either tell them to subscribe, like your video, share your video, comment on your video, visit your website, etc. More often than not they will do these things as long as you ask. Make sure you have some sort of call-to-action on your video so you can increase your YouTube views.
7. Social Media
Use your social media channels to share your video. Plain and simple. Use relevant hashtags on most or all of the popular social media platforms: Google+, Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, and Instagram. Not only will your followers see them, but relevant hashtags will make your video available for anybody on that social platform to see them when they’re searching for that particular topic.
Oh, the oldie but goodie. People don’t utilize playlists like they should, but playlists are a great way to increase your views on your YouTube videos. If you create a playlist with multiple videos in it then people are more inclined to stay and watch all the videos in that playlist especially if it’s in a chronological order. Another good thing about playlists is that the next video in the playlist will automatically play after the current video finishes playing. That’s a good way to get more views on all those videos in that playlist
9. InVideo Programming
This is one of the newer features on this list when it comes to YouTube, and it’s a good way to promote a certain video across all of your videos. InVideo Programming can be set up through your YouTube channel settings.
It’s a little box that pops up on all your videos at a certain time. You can promote any video that you want. That little pop-up will encourage people to click over and watch that video or whatever you’re promoting on your channel. InVideo Programming is definitely a good way to get more views.
Collabs! This is one of the most powerful ways to get more views on your YouTube videos. With collaborations you’re practically getting thrown in front of a huge relevant audience, and it is a surefire way to instantly get more views and even more subscribers.
Collaborating with a YouTuber that has a bigger audience base than you is a great way to get more views especially if that YouTuber is in the same niche as you or has a similar audience as you. You’re putting yourself in front of a big audience that is already interested in that particular category or topic.
If you do a good job collaborating with that YouTuber then a lot of their subscribers will most likely migrate over to your channel to watch your videos and subscribe. Collaborations are definitely something that you should be doing.
